In 2022 we sailed the Caribbean aboard Silversea's Silver Moon. I sailed gluten-free, which made the onboard S.A.L.T. program — Sea and Land Taste, Silversea's culinary deep-dives tied to each port — one of the best parts of the trip. We started and ended in Barbados, with island days scattered between.

Setting sail from Barbados

We began with a pre-cruise stay at the Hilton Barbados — slow mornings by the Needham's Point lighthouse and a walk up to the old cannon fort above the bay.

Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands

A tender-port day — Silver Moon at anchor off the island, and big green views from the island's high points.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Isla Verde's beach, the great stone fortress of El Morro, and the colorful streets of Old San Juan. We found great margaritas in a little hole-in-the-wall on the street by El Morro — the kind of find you only get by wandering.

Bequia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines

Bequia was a favorite — up to Fort Hamilton for the cannon's-eye view of the bay, then out to the Grenadine House salt farm to see the evaporation pans still worked the old way.

Back to Barbados

We closed the loop where we started — the harbor at Bridgetown, one last sail-away past the lighthouse point.

Life aboard: S.A.L.T. and slow days

Between ports, the rhythm was cooking classes, long lunches, and doing not much at all — the best kind of sea days.
